Mary Beth Burgis
Controller
Mary Beth joined Vermilion Development in March 2022. She oversees the accounting, financial reporting, tax, and operations for Vermilion and its investments.
Her experience spans roles in corporate leadership, directing the financial and operational functions for various companies – public and private, start-ups and established. She has overseen finance and accounting operations for multimillion-dollar, multi-site real estate portfolios. I have worked in private equity, institutional REITs, and development companies. While with Shelbourne Development Group, she established and led a new finance department that grew with the firm’s expansion. She managed finances for one of the world’s largest real estate development projects—a $2B Chicago property. Mary Beth also directed accounting for Executive Affiliates’ $750M real estate portfolio. In tandem with creating and mentoring accounting/finance groups, she was responsible for sourcing and implementing IT solutions. In 2016 she entered the consulting arena, first with Tate & Lyle U.S., strengthening reporting and controls, and then as a consultant for Walgreens on its Rite Aid acquisition, which involved multiple closings for asset transfers. Along with our team, she enjoyed writing the core values for Vermilion’s affordable assisted living management company, Silver Birch Living. She built its accounting team and implemented technical solutions to meet our business objectives.
Mary Beth holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Augustana College, a post-undergrad Paralegal Certificate from Roosevelt University, and a licensed CPA.
